Arachne

"The class Arachnida takes its name from the mythological character Arachne.
According to an ancient Greek legend, Arachne was a young girl who spun marvelously fine threads and wove beautiful cloth. She was so proud of her skills, the ancient Greeks said, that she challenged the goddess Athena to a spinning and weaving contest. Indeed Arachne's cloth was perfect. The perfection of Arachne's work so enraged Athena that she destroyed her rival's work. Then she struck Arachne, turning her into a spider that would forever spin and weave."
